From the Table of Contents page, you can use the Toolbar
to return to the Search page, access the global Table of Contents
page (enabling you to switch between volumes), open a context-sensitive
Help page and consult general information about the database.
There are three ways to access the Table of Contents page. You
can:
- select the Table of Contents button from the Toolbar of any page.
This will take you to the global Table of Contents page allowing
you to specify the required volume. To do this, enter the relevant
number into the box provided and select Choose.
You are then presented with the Table of Contents page for that
volume.
- select the Table of Contents button
corresponding to a particular entry in the Search Results with Context page. This will take you directly to the Table
of Contents for the relevant volume, which is expanded to the
level of the selected entry in the Search Results with Context.
- select the Table of Contents button
in the Full Text page. This will take
you directly to the Table of Contents for the relevant volume,
which is expanded to the level of the current item.
The Table of Contents page allows you to browse through the contents
of all the volumes contained in the Patrologia Latina
Database and look at their structure. For example,
you may wish to browse the documents of a particular volume, or
look at the original context of the document you are currently viewing.
The various levels of heading are represented in the Table of Contents
by branches which can be expanded or collapsed. Navigation
within the Table of Contents is by means of the buttons
and
which indicate whether you can expand or collapse a branch to change
the level of detail displayed.
Each of the branches in the Table of Contents is a hyperlink allowing
you to open the Full Text of the corresponding
item. The title of each item is followed by the download size in
bytes of the corresponding Full Text page.
Note: The larger the download size of an item,
the longer the Full Text page for that item will take to download. You may be prompted to confirm your selection.
The order of the Table of Contents is the same as the Full
Text; works are arranged numerically by volume. The contents
of the volumes themselves follow their copy texts in structure and
order so that headings, divisions and subdivisions within the copy
text are preserved. The presence of elements, such as contents lists
and indices, which appear outside documents is also indicated in
the Table of Contents page. Document and division titles are displayed
in capitals and authors are displayed in bold.
